Troubleshooting
I can’t see any output on my display device
Carry out the following checks:
- Check that the Cat5 UTP cable has been correctly terminated. Ideally this should be done with a network cable tester.
- Check that connected power supplies are switched on
- Check that the transmitter power LED is on
- Check that the receiver power LED is on
- Turn the ‘Tune’ control fully anti-clockwise and then slowly turn it clockwise until an image is displayed
Please note: If your CatX transmitter has a local Monitor output, you can directly connect a display device to check that the PC/Player is outputting a signal and that it is reaching the CatX transmitter.
Display only outputs low resolution settings when connected to the PC with CatX Extender
If your display device will only display at low resolutions when using a CatX extender, one of the causes may be because the PC/Player cannot receive DDC information. A common symptom of this is that the display will only output images at 640 x 480.
One way to solve this is to install a driver for the display device. Once this has been done you should then be able to display the required resolution.
Please note: It is possible to create your own display device driver. There are utilities such as powerstrip for windows that can be used.
What are DDC and EDID?
DDC stands for Display Data Channel.
EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data.
Both these systems are standards described by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) and refer to the information passed to a computer graphics card by the display device (display, projector etc) so that the graphics card knows what settings should be used.
Cat5 extenders do not transfer this type of information. It is advisable to install the correct display device driver on any computer that will be used with a Cat5 extender system.
