Description
The CatX AVP Tx4 / 8 transmitters broadcast a sharp high quality videos at distances of up to 300m (600m span), using low cost cat5 UTP cable.
These VGA cat5 extenders are very low power and of highest build quality. The maximum high resolution of 2048 x 1536 makes the CatX AVP Tx4 / 8 the best quality units in this category.
CatX AVP Tx4 and CatX AVP Tx8 transmitters each have two modes of operation: VP mode (Video+Power) and AV mode (Audio+Video). In VP mode, the transmitters can directly power CatX Mini VP receiver units on the selected outputs, up to 150m. This further reduces cost and simplifies installation at the receiver end.
Both these transmitters provide a sharp high quality video at up to 300m, using low cost cat5 cabling and consume less than 0.25W per output.
These VGA cat5 extenders can also cascade to increase the number of outputs available, providing maximum configuration flexibility. The units also provide local VGA and audio outputs.
An optional 1U rack mount kit can accommodate up to two CatX AVP Tx4 / 8 transmitters. Alternatively, the units can be secured using optional wall or DIN rail mounting brackets.

EDID function
Have you ever tried to connect a display device to a video source using a Cat5 extender and found that it is difficult to set the required resolution?
This problem can occur when distributing video from the PC/Player to any display device using Cat5 extenders, because the video source (e.g. graphics card) cannot identify the type of display device that is attached. This often means that the resolution can only be set (or defaults to) a lower setting than is required.
Most video sources will read the EDID from any display device that is connected directly to it. This will ensure that the PC/Player OS can make use of all the features associated with any particular display device (including the resolution). EDID information cannot usually be received by the graphics card when it is connected to a display device via a Cat5 extender.
CatX multiple port extenders from SY Electronics incorporate an EDID function that solves this problem.
CatX AVP Tx2, Tx4 and Tx8 transmitters will store the EDID which can be read by the graphics card, allowing full use of the display device features. This helps make installation with CatX extenders an easy and trouble free process.
The CatX AVP Tx2, Tx4 and Tx8 transmitters have the facility to download and store the EDID information via DDC when any EDID enabled display device is connected directly to the local VGA output of the transmitter.
All of these transmitters have a default EDID configuration, which is suitable for many installations. However, this function can also be used to store a different EDID by connecting the transmitter directly to any display device.
What is DDC?
The Display Data Channel (DDC) is the connection between the Display Device and the Graphics card that transmits the EDID information.
What is EDID?
Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) is a data structure provided by a digital display device to describe its capabilities to a video source (e.g. graphics card). It is what enables a modern PC/Player to know what kinds of monitors are connected to it. EDID is defined by a standard published by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). The EDID includes manufacturer name and serial number, product type, phosphor or filter type, timings supported by the display, display size, luminance data and (for digital displays only) pixel mapping data.
