SY Electronics first used CatX as a brand name for its range of KVM extenders.
The then new and emerging digital signage market created a requirement for combined VGA and Audio extenders, so SY Electronics became one of the first electronics companies to meet this growing demand by designing a dedicated range of Audio and Video extenders under the CatX brand.
The CatX products have following family names:
- VGA Extenders
- VGA Distribution
- Composite Extenders
- KVM Extenders
- Skew Correction
SY Electronics manufacture a wide range of VGA extender products for a wide variety of applications that include digital signage, hospitality suites and data centres.
These products are in three product ranges:
- CatX Mini Range
- CatX AVP Range
- CatX Classic Range
The CatX Mini Range and the CatX AVP Range are fully compatible with each other. However, products in the CatX Classic Range are only compatible with other products from the CatX Classic Range.
As the Digital Signage arena becomes more diverse, digital signage networks are wanting to make the best use of different video formats.
SY is pleased to announce the inclusion of HDMI extenders in the CatX range as part of its ongoing development program. SY is committed to the distribution of video, audio and control of networks for the Digital Signage market.
The new CatX HDMI extender range will allow distribution of a single HDMI source to multiple output devices via a single cat5/6 cable.

Composite Video is still widely used to broadcast TV quality images. Composite is normally distributed using Co-Axial cable. SY Electronics has designed a complimentary Cat5 extender product for Composite video.
The nature of Composite Video also means that good quality video displays can be maintained over much longer lengths of Cat5/6 cable. In the case of the CatX Composite range, this means up to 600m. It also means that these units are even more cost effective compared with the CatX VGA and KVM extender range.

XSQ™ technology provides perfect skew delay correction between the Red, Green and Blue VGA signals. This delay is as a direct result of transmitting RGB signals over Cat5/5e/6 cables.
Cat5 and Cat6 UTP cables are designed with a different number of twists, resulting in different lengths for each twisted pair. When transmitting RGB video signals over these cables, a colour separation occurs, affecting the image quality. This effect is referred to as “Skew”.
The skew level in Cat5 cables is often negligible, especially at distances below 100m; however skew can become significant when using Cat5e/6, in particular over longer distances.
